West Coast Weekender returns for its second go May 4-7 in the coastal city of San Diego. Last year’s inaugural event attracted over 1,200 people from across the country. In October, New York-raised DJ/producer MANIK told DJ Mag, “West Coast Weekender... brought in the brand new with the old school. The crowd was so diverse; it was true house music. The vibes were insanely good and I loved every minute of it.”
Dj producer Rich Medina says “West Coast Weekender is one of, if not THE the most engaging and comprehensive music event in America. Hands down it's a breath of fresh air with a recipe for DJs, fans, and industry types to want to come back over and over again.”
In 2016 the event established itself as more than just a set of day-to-night parties. As a full-fledged conference, attendees and artists came together at San Diego’s Four Points Sheraton Downtown for provocative discussions on beat making and community-specific topics before heading to the day’s festivities. This year, the WCW team is doubling down on panels and workshops. From panels about social activism to limited-seating workshops on Ableton Live, there are educational opportunities for everyone.
DJ Talent for 2017 will include Mark Farina, LTJ Bukem, Oliver Dollar, Purple Disco Machine, Marques Wyatt, Walker & Royce, Matrix & Futurebound, Enei, Manik, Sunshine Jones, Manoo, Mr. V, Rich Medina, Julius tMt, Lars Behrenroth, Jask, Doza, Jamal, Method One, Mark Quark, Cris Herrera, Greg Eversoul, Eric Medina, Garva, MC Ridda, Adam Gibbons, Antonio Manigrassi, David Montoya, Eric Groove, Diaztek, Ryan Bauer, Jayvi Velasco, Marshall Jones, Bass Exotic, Bumpy Nuggets, Nimbus, Olga Arteaga, Rani “G”, David Sabat, Chris Liosi, Terri Lee, Lillian So, & BigDaddyDoug.

Regardless of the equipment DJs use, they’re tethered to the power source for their gear. Turntables, mixers, and CDJs each need power, many controllers with audio cards sound better with their own power source, and laptops need to stay charged. Generally, DJs use a multitude of power strips and surge protectors to make sure that the music stays on. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen both Numark and American DJ heavily promote dedicated power strips designed for DJs – learn about them inside.
San Diego—West Coast Weekender returns for its second go May 4-7 to imprint itself on the coastal city of San Diego. Last year’s inaugural event attracted over 1,000 people from across the country. That freshman class, made up of old schoolers and new schoolers, left reinvigorated with the infectiousness of a thriving underground. Even in cities like San Diego, where the mainstream holds strong, there’s a hunger for underground music counterculture.
West Coast Weekend invites everyone to be a part of this movement by making it an affordable and rewarding experience.
While many festival prices soar, West Coast Weekender is one of the most accessible dance events in the country for its talent, workshops, networking, and beautiful atmosphere. Last year artists played day and night, and industry experts spoke on panels to an intimate audience of music enthusiasts. Those artists included Rich Medina, Friction, Dara, Gene Farris, Christian Martin, Osunlade, and supporting acts from up and down the California coast. This year, more panels and workshops are planned to accommodate the demand for networking and learning.
In October, New York-raised DJ/producer MANIK told DJ Mag, “West Coast Weekender... brought in the brand new with the old school. The crowd was so diverse; it was true house music. The vibes were insanely good and I loved every minute of it.”
